upgrade complete
October 14, 2007At least I think it’s complete. Moving to WordPress 2.3 was an interesting upgrade. There were a couple plugins I had to find workarounds for, because they are an integral part of my design but no longer work in this version. The biggest change was having to hand-code the category icon display, but it wasn’t that bad and I do like the fact that it now shows icons for all categories. And thank heavens for WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin. That has made my life so much easier, in so many ways.
Simple Tagging was made redundant by the now baked-in WP tagging. Not hard to change that, except that I have no way to import the old tags. (If you’re using UTW, you’re in luck, there is an importer for that.) I decided that it wasn’t that big of a deal to me - it’s not a system I’ve used a lot, I only had like 50 tags total anyway, most of them applied only once - so I’ll just start from scratch from here on in.
I also had to drop my use of FeedList to display my del.icio.us posts and Google Reader shared items. I’ve got it running through feed2js code right now, but if any of you see a new, working feed display tool (plugin or widget, either way), please give me a shout.
I think I’ve got all the kinks worked out, but if you run across something weird, please give me a shout. Updated CSS and dynamic ‘mitten map’ are yet-to-come items.
