November 8, 2006Say it with me: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Again, just for fun: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
I stayed up much later than I should have last night, but I couldn’t help it. Remembering 2004 all too keenly, I was afraid to go to bed thinking we had won, only to wake up in the morning to find it all gone in a depressing puff of smoke.
But MSNBC’s Democracy Dashboard, which I updated semi-minutely last night, still says we win the House this morning. And as we hold our collective breath over VA and MT, I want to quote Cenk Uygur over at the HuffPo:
Jim Webb and Jon Tester have won the initial count in Virginia and Montana. It is clear and indisputable that they deserve the same presumption of victory that George W. Bush received in 2000. They are the winners until conclusively proven otherwise by every method of counting and court review possible. (emphasis mine)
EDIT: Cenk Ugyar isn’t the only one. Check this out from Howard Rodman:
Webb’s lead over Allen is more than ten times larger than that of Bush over Gore in Florida when Roger Ailes called the presidential race for Bush in 2000. Tester’s lead over Burns is as of this writing at least twice as large as Bush’s 2000 Florida victory margin. (emphasis Rodman’s)
The local results are nearly as good – not only did Granholm hang on, but the Dems took back the House. (Almost the Senate, too, but not quite.) Big disappointment on Prop 2, of course.
But oh, just once more, indulge me: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
