I suppose I ought to offer some explanation, even given the irony in that statement. I hate, I mean really hate, those supposed ‘art’works that make no sense unless you read the essay-length explanation posted next to the thing. If you want to be a writer, be a writer. If you want to be a visual artist, figure out how to get your message across visually. It’s just not rocket science. If your visual work needs linguistic explanation to make sense, then it has failed. And yes, I do believe that not everything is art just because the maker says it’s art. Art is communication. If your visual art doesn’t work without linguistic explanation, then it’s not good visual art, it’s an illustration to accompany a written work.
But I’m not opinionated or anything.
I love that picture!
And for that matter, I love flickr. I have been spending my last hour of work each day looking up various cities that I have been to or plan to go to and looking at the available pictures as a slideshow. It is as good as watching t.v. in the office!
