kagayaki sushi

This is too cool! I don’t know how long this place has been in business – I don’t think it’s been too long – but I bet you didn’t know that Ann Arbor has a conveyor belt sushi place!
We took the boys over there tonight. It’s at Ellsworth and Carpenter, in the mall with Rider’s Hobby and Lai Lai (kitty corner from Lowe’s). The conveyor is big fun, with colorful plates holding a decent variety of yummy bites. The sushi on the conveyor is all cooked sushi, but you can order raw maki & nigiri if you wish.
We stuck to the conveyor and had some good eel rolls and inside-out rolls with masago (those little orange eggs sent directly from heaven to my mouth). Jack, our sushi-hater, ate some inari (tofu skin packets) and actually seemed to like them. There was a good selection of roll pieces, and there were plates of crunchy noodles and edamame and sweet cookies too.
The plates are colored, and each color has a price associated with it. As you eat, you stack up your plates and when you’re done, the very kind and doting waitstaff total up your plates and tada, you’re done! The prices ranged from $1.50 to $3.50 a plate – we ate mostly orange ones, which were $1.80.
We were the only ones there – which surprised me for a Friday night. It’s not fancy sushi, but it was very tasty and reasonably priced and the conveyor is fun. So go there! Take the kids! Big thumbs up on this one!
