day one

web, tech & gadgets

Or is it two? Last night was just a warm-up, I think. First session, first party (and second and third) and first hangover this morning.

I am already having a ton of fun. Got to listen to my web heroes talk about CSS. Met some cool people. Listened to a funny session on how to fake Web 2.0 (with some insightful real comments towards the end). Looking forward to more this afternoon, and more tonight, too.

My impressions so far:

  • The Interactive side is better organized than the Film side. Panels are spaced out better, timed better.
  • You don’t need to see badges to tell the Film people from the Interactive people. The Film people exude this really different vibe. I think it’s because they all want something.
  • Everyone is really friendly, but it’s still hard to get up the nerve to talk to strangers.
  • Austin is gorgeous. Ann Arbor could learn some lessons.
  • There are lots of macs here. Lots and lots and lots. I feel quite in the minority, even with my cool-looking HP.

Must run to the next thing.

They may be the alma mater, but oh man - what were they thinking spending $4 million dollars for this coach? so they could look like they sent the JV team out?
