Thoughts on Seattle so far:
* Discovery Park. We spent a large portion of Monday there. It was very pretty, we walked many miles and enjoyed the beach along Puget Sound. It reminded me of Northern Michigan, to be honest. Without the mountains in the background, of course, but the terrain and vegetation were largely indistinguishable from upstate. (More ferns, different pines.)
* The locks and salmon ladder. Goofy, but amusing. We saw some great big boats go through the locks, which thrills my inner 3 year old.
* Seattle drivers. Already seen one hit a cyclist. No stop lines at intersections so people apparently just pull out into traffic randomly. Unimpressed.
* Seattle pedestrians. They outdo U-M students in terms of strolling out ...

Flight in was uneventful. Darling toddler in front of Jack and I; she was a good natured baby and didn't cry at all.
I had made a car reservation with Avis. I forgot that I had preferred status, and woot! that meant that there was a car with my name on it, literally. The car pickup was at the terminal - I can't remember the last time I rented a car without having to get it a remote location, preferred status or not.
The car has a Garmin thingie. We giggled all the way to the little house/cottage we're staying at listening to turn here and turn there. I think it's ridiculous. We arrived much earlier than we thought, so the cottage ...

Dexter Road westbound is closed near Maple Road. Maple Road is down to two lanes, one each direction. This is supposed to last a week or so.
There are a few other restrictions:
Going Eastbound on Dexter: You may not turn left onto northbound Maple. You can go straight or turn right.
Going Westbound on Dexter: You must turn.
Northbound Maple is backing up heavily at rush hour due to merging down to one lane. Eastbound Dexter doesn't look too bad; I think people are avoiding it completely.
The AATA #9 is picking up and dropping off on the west side of Maple, just south of Dexter (the Plum Market stop).
Now ...

First day at SXSW was a pretty mixed bag. Up way too early in the morning, second flight was really rough. But the hotel room was ready when we arrived and the box of
Not an Employee swag that UPS was telling us would be delayed until Monday was already at the hotel. Woot! Didn't manage to nab any free food or drink (EPIC FAIL), but Keith and I had a nice lunch at Habana.
The
How to Bankrupt Your Startup panel was a great kick-off for the week - like the old adage about any movie with a monkey in it has to be good, I'm quite sure that any panel with a unicorn on it will rawk, ...

Feelin' mighty nostalgic this morning, not sure why. But I may as well share a little piece of my nostalgia, eh?
I wish I was back on the Lochranza ferry
With long legged Keefy
Breathing the spray and the sweet island air of the morning
But I'm wasting away in this sweltering prison
The mercury's rising
And freedom's a dream that arrives and escapes with the dawning
I won't leave this link up very long, but if you want to hear the accompanying song running ...

I've lost track. Here at the hotel relaxing a bit, out of the convention center - I was feeling a little overwhelmed and a break seemed the right thing to do. More things I've learned at SXSW:
Consumating is a kind of neat website. Good for playing tag. My profile (yes, here in Austin and still signing up for new services anyway) is
here if you want to take a look.
Interesting to see all the people using cameras to take 'notes.' Lots of pics of being taken of the panelists' visual media.
Attended a great panel, moderated by Christian Crumlish, on web identity and attention. There were some terrific things said; I ...

Pre-dawn, bags are packed, husband is stirring. Just need to get dressed and out the door. I'll post pics at
Flickr, and post here if I get a chance, too.
Twitter is a good bet for the next few days, should you want to know what I'm up to.

4 hours from Chicago to Ann Arbor. I'm wiped. So, no bottle blogging today.
What a nice day, though. We did a bit of filming and strolled along the lakeside, then a trip to the Art Institute. I'll write more about that, but if you're in Chicago or planning to go before the end of the year, don't miss the Charles Sheeler exhibit. Excellent.
One note: wandering through the cubist galleries today, Keith pulls my arm and says "Look - the eye follows you!" Ah ha ha ha ha ha!

Hello from Chicago! Here visiting Mom for the holiday.
We spent much of the afternoon walking around downtown, both on our own and as part of the
Tiffany on Wednesdays tour at the
Chicago Architecture Foundation. We had a beer and a sandwich at some little Italian place and looked at the Christmas windows at Field's Macy's. We didn't get over to the
Sheeler exhibit today; will do that Friday.
Sitting at lunch, I realized just how content I was to be in the city again. The trains rumbling overhead. The people on the sidewalks - some moving fast, some moving slow. The buses and taxis and their attendant ...
