So I ran across
Viddler today, following
brianshaler's tweet. I'm blown away by their commenting mechanism: you can put comments right on the timeline! So as you watch, you can see other people's reactions to specific parts of the video. It's like Flickr's Notes, but with a time element. You can also tag videos in a similar way. And you can make video comments. I think it's damn slick.
Here's the video that brianshaler referred to. It's a contest to win an iPhone.

Some of you know of my unhealthy fascination with French rap music. My new pusher for my addiction is one of Keith's buddies, Marc-Antoine. But I found this all on my own:

It used to be that 'making breakfast for mama' involved me making my own breakfast with four extra little pudgy hands involved. Not so anymore. Sam did the scrambled eggs completely on his own and Jack made a cinnamon crumb cake (from a mix, but I'm not counting that against him) with only minimal help from me.
They cleaned the car, too. This required more supervision, but they did a fairly reasonable job. No more sticky stuff in the back seat, windows reasonably fingerprint-free, floors vacuumed. Not too shabby.
How is it that it's taken me this long to get to
The Shins? Oh, I've heard of them, they appear on various '
recommendation' lists of mine, etc. - but I ...

The Michigan Theater had a special advance screening of
The Last Mimzy, a new movie by
Bob Shaye, and we all trotted down to see it. You may not know Bob Shaye's name, but you do know his work: he founded
New Line Cinema and produced the Lord of the Rings triology, among many other things. He's also a UM alum, and chose to do one of the very first screenings (the film doesn't open til next week) right here in Ann Arbor.
It was terrific. It's rated PG, and I think that's accurate, but only because of the complexity of the story. I think it would mostly bore/confuse the 4 - 7 ...

I forgot an internet toy in yesterday's post. Maybe because it's not so much a toy as a tool. I've been searching (and searching and searching) for a to-do system that makes sense to me. I don't need a super-complex, integrating with calendar, tagging, remindering, ajaxing bells-and-whistles 'solution' - those require too much time investment, both in terms of maintenance and in terms of requiring me to switch platforms for my current calendaring system. (I use Google Calendar, largely because Keith and I and even the ex-husband can share calendars easily across OS platforms.) But Google's to-do's are too simplistic. Just one long list, even though I can change colors of items, just ...

Word is out all across the
web design RSS feeds this morning:
Dan Mall and crew have introduced
swfIR, a method of styling images with Flash. It means that you can add borders, rounded corners, drop shadows - even rotate the image - on the fly. Which is a boon for CMS based sites, because designers can now add some slickness to image display without the content generators needing to be skilled in image manipulation. Dan wrote more on the concept at
A List Apart today, too.
The whole concept, not to mention the simple implementation, ...

This is too cool! I don't know how long this place has been in business - I don't think it's been too long - but I bet you didn't know that Ann Arbor has a conveyor belt sushi place!
We took the boys over there tonight. It's at Ellsworth and Carpenter, in the mall with Rider's Hobby and Lai Lai (kitty corner from Lowe's). The conveyor is big fun, with colorful plates holding a decent variety of yummy bites. The sushi on the conveyor is all cooked sushi, but you can order raw maki & nigiri if you wish.
We stuck to the conveyor and had some good eel ...
