ravesweb, tech & gadgets At SXSW, which seems like such a distant memory now, I had a wonderful rainy-day barbeque lunch with Barbara, Andrew Hyde and Micah Baldwin. Micah explained Lijit to us - it's a search engine tool which allows a reader to search across the content you create at various sites across the net, as well as to search sources you trust. I just installed the search wijit; give it a try. The first results you get will be for occurrences of your search term on this blog. If you click on the My Content tab, though, you'll get occurrences of the term across all my affiliated sites, like my del.icio.us links, ...

The stars are bright

ravestravelweb, tech & gadgets First day at SXSW was a pretty mixed bag. Up way too early in the morning, second flight was really rough. But the hotel room was ready when we arrived and the box of Not an Employee swag that UPS was telling us would be delayed until Monday was already at the hotel. Woot! Didn't manage to nab any free food or drink (EPIC FAIL), but Keith and I had a nice lunch at Habana. The How to Bankrupt Your Startup panel was a great kick-off for the week - like the old adage about any movie with a monkey in it has to be good, I'm quite sure that any panel with a unicorn on it will rawk, ...

spring break

ann arborfamilyrantsraves The boys have just arrived after spending the weekend at Norm's. They're here all this week - all day, every day - because it's spring break. AAPS didn't used to have this week off, they just did an Easter break, but somewhere along the line, the School Board decided that in a college town where the U has this week off, the schools need to be off, too. I'll note that the U doesn't have a long Easter break, but the AAPS didn't cancel theirs, so that kind of shoots the 'we need to match their schedule' argument, no? So now the kids get two weeks off school, spaced about 3 weeks apart. Can you feel my enthusiasm? Luckily, Keith ...

psssst

introspectionraves Hey, you. Yes, you. You know who you are - I smile at you a little more than anyone else, talk a little more quickly, stare just a little bit longer. Be my valentine, won't you?

mr. blue sky

ann arborfamilyraves As of yesterday, I've been married to Keith for 4 years. We celebrated last night with big martinis at the bar at Cafe Felix (him Picasso, me Martini Felix) and then over to Miki for sushi. We told the cute little server that it was our anniversary and told her the amount we wanted to spend and just had the chefs make up something for us. It was wonderful - she brought out this huge boat (it really was shaped like a boat!) full of sashimi and an auxiliary tray of nigiri. It was out of this ...

realm of the sub-genius

ravesweb, tech & gadgets I went in to the Apple Store this afternoon to take advantage of my new One-to-One training membership for the first time. I had been collecting questions on a sticky note all week. It went okay - I stumped the poor guy a number of times. Turns out he was 'just' a Creative, not a Genius. I got a bunch of good tips and information, though. We had fun with two iMacs in one room both responding to any remote. In Tiger, you can turn off remote control - all or nothing - but in Leopard (at least there in the store, anyway) it appears that you can pair a device with a particular remote. Woo! The help in Leopard looks pretty cool. ...

greenfield village

familyrantsraves I have some vague memories of a childhood visit to Michigan and Granny Fisher insisting on a trip to Greenfield Village. Very sketchy. But I think that was the last time I was there until today. Keith has a friend who works there and the place is completely rife with stock footage (and photography) possibilities. Since the boys are with us all week, we decided to take a trip out there today - both for family fun and for work. We didn't have to spend money to get in, but did buy lunch and a ride on the train. What a strange place, oddly interesting and mind-numbingly dull at the same time. Keith filmed his friend scything and I strolled around with ...

but I know you best as a blagger

artsraves A little Friday pin-up action for ya. Gotta love The Fratellis. Great summer music. As far as I can tell, all the best music comes from Scotland. Spinner.com, which is run by AOL of all things, is one of my many my guilty pleasures. They have free .mp3s everyday - not too shabby! Edit: Ok, screw Spinner, can't resize their player. Try this one. Music Video Code provided by VideoCodeZone.Com

artsrantsravesweb, tech & gadgets Second Life Finally gave it a try. I've called myself Mitten Beaumont, which seems like a porn name to me, but best as I can tell that's appropriate to the content. I didn't find adjusting my appearance too hard to do (I now have a grass shirt with flared cuffs), but as a newbie with no experience and no one sitting over my shoulder telling me where to go, moving around and visiting places was completely unintuitive and totally unproductive. I still have yet to find much of anything but porn, even when I tried to search for popular places and newbie places. I'm amused with the weird 'sitting' functions that let you strike a sunbathing pose or kissy pose, but beyond ...

speed racer

Forget the old cartoon, forget any hint of serious intent and go watch this movie for the sheer technicolor delight of it. It's beautiful, it's fast, it's silly (in the good way), it's exciting and inspired. Go Speed go!
