I have a theory: a few decades ago, if the scientists who noticed that the planet was getting warmer chose a different phrase than 'global warming' to rally public support for their cause, serious work on the problem would have begun much earlier.
The problem with the phrase 'global warming' is that it's a scientist's point of view, not a citizen's point of view. Yes, the planet as a whole may be getting warmer, but most people don't grasp that - they see that they've had a unusually cold winter and laugh at the idea that their world is getting warmer. Why should they believe a scientist who says something they can clearly see is not true? The scientists were ...

The long-awaited documentary
The US vs. John Lennon opens at the
Michigan Theater this week. The theater will be donating a portion of ticket sales to
Michigan Peaceworks, so please print out this
slip (or write Michigan Peaceworks on a piece of paper) and turn it in when you buy your ticket.
I don't have a lot of details yet, but there will be a special appearance by Lennon contemporary
John Sinclair after the 7:00 show on December 20.
Peace out.

Say it with me: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Again, just for fun: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
I stayed up much later than I should have last night, but I couldn't help it. Remembering 2004 all too keenly, I was afraid to go to bed thinking we had won, only to wake up in the morning to find it all gone in a depressing puff of smoke.
But MSNBC's
Democracy Dashboard, which I updated semi-minutely last night, still says we win the House this morning. And as we hold our collective breath over VA and MT, I want to quote
Cenk Uygur over at the HuffPo:
Jim Webb and Jon Tester have won ...

Wow, no matter the total national outcome, this is one satisfying result:
Casey Scores Upset over Santorum in PA

UPDATE: The Supreme Court candidates are NOT in alphabetical order, at least on the ballot I voted on. Beckering was last. So either alphabetize it yourself or just remember Beckering and Cavanaugh.
+++++
On the drive to school and work this morning, I see that new signs have sprung up on lawns which already sported signs for Democratic candidates: TODAY'S THE DAY - VOTE DEMOCRATIC. Amen to that.
If you haven't queued up yet, jot down these names: Beckering and Cavanaugh. They are candidates for Supreme Court who have been nominated by Democrats, but since it's a non-partisan position, their party affiliations won't appear next to their names. Mnemonic for you: they are the two ...
