Well, this wasn't how I expected to say goodbye to 2006. I'm lying on a king sized bed in a room on the second floor of the fantabulous Super 8 Motel in Clawson, Michigan. We drove out here to attend a party, and booked the room so we wouldn't have to make a long drive home afterwards. But neither of us are feeling well at all, so we had to leave the party. So we're watching the back of Christina Aguilera's head on tv because, best as we can figure, the vison mixer is dead drunk, and watching the freak show that Dick Clark has become. I mean, I feel bad for the guy and wish him well, but really, ...

Oh, and it's a tough choice, but I think it's Elvis.

Part of our Christmas ritual is the annual toy cleanup, whereby I go through the boys' toys with them and we find the toys & games they don't play with anymore and find new homes for them. This year, I've finally convinced them to part with the Brio train set. (They're downstairs setting up one last track, apparently for old times' sake.)
So. If anyone out there would like a large set of Brio tracks and trains, please get in touch with me. If you're in town and you hurry, you could even have 'em for Christmas! They are all genuine Brio pieces, and are in pretty good shape. The electric engine is spotty, but it ...

Latest web craze: Twitter. To me, it's like a virtual way to peek over the cubicle wall and say 'Hey, whatcha doin'?' Nice way to combat the physical disconnect of the life of a web-based freelancer.

It's raining, still. Foggy, too, and generally dismal. Forecast is no snow for Christmas. This weather is totally sapping my will to get in the holiday spirit. Best song for this: Christmas Song by Blues Traveller. "Comes the time for Christmas, and I really have to ask, if this is feeling merry, how much longer must it last?"
Getting out with the
Flickr crowd last night was great, though. I do enjoy photography, but haven't been applying myself much of late. I feel a bit inspired though. Been years since I did any pinhole photography, but I always liked the variable nature of it. Maybe I'll get me one of ...

I am the sonnet, never quickly thrilled;
Not prone to overstated gushing praise
Nor yet to seething rants and anger, filled
With overstretched opinions to rephrase;
But on the other hand, not fond of fools,
And thus, not fond of people, on the whole;
And holding to the sound and useful rules,
Not those that seek unjustified control.
I'm balanced, measured, sensible (at least,
I think I am, and usually I'm right);
And when more ostentatious types have ceased,
I'm still around, and doing, still, alright.
In short, I'm calm and rational and stable -
Or, well, I am, as much as I am able.
What Poetry Form Are You?
(It also thought I might be Blank Verse.)
I am, of course, none other than blank verse.
I don't know ...

Wendell asked if I would post a pic of the tree now that it's decorated. Here it is, in all its glory:
(Wonderful what a little change in camera angle will do!)

The long-awaited documentary
The US vs. John Lennon opens at the
Michigan Theater this week. The theater will be donating a portion of ticket sales to
Michigan Peaceworks, so please print out this
slip (or write Michigan Peaceworks on a piece of paper) and turn it in when you buy your ticket.
I don't have a lot of details yet, but there will be a special appearance by Lennon contemporary
John Sinclair after the 7:00 show on December 20.
Peace out.

We decided that this year, as belts are tight, we'd forgo a live tree and use the fake one I have from years ago. More prezzies is better was the thinking.
So I hauled the box up from the basement and set the thing up. If this is not the most forlorn, Charlie Brown of a Christmas tree, I don't know what is. I keep looking at it and laughing and then feeling bad for the poor thing. The box says it's 6 feet tall, but um, no, it's barely taller than I am.
But like Charlie's tree, I'm thinking that all it needs a little lovin' to make it perk up. I ...
