new math

politicsrants 1. How much does it cost to fill up your tank when there's an incompetent administration in power? 13.91 gallons x $3.19 = $44.52 2. How much does it cost to drive a car? a. If you need a car to give you the illusion of being safe and powerful because said incompetent administration has made sure that you're scared out of your mind? $3.19 / 8 = 39.8¢ per mile b. If you bought a domestic car with the employee discount? $3.19 / 19.4 = 16.4¢ per mile c. And if you managed to get through the waiting list and score a Prius? $3.19 / 55 = 5.8¢ per mile 3. And for the inquisitive student: As the pump price goes up, Bush's popularity ...

ann arborarts Volunteer ushers are needed at the Michigan Theater for the upcoming season, which looks pretty damn good to me. The mass meetings are at the theater Wednesday Sept 7 and Thursday Sept 8 from 5:30-6:30. (Or you can email volunteers at michtheater dot org for more info) You'll need to commit to ushering for several shows, but there are still usher spots available for the Sigur Ros show. Which is sold out. So if you want to go and don't have a ticket, you know what to do. Some of the other shows in the fall lineup are: George Clinton 9/24, Interpol 9/25, Death Cab for Cutie 10/14, Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon (of Phish) 10/23, Henry ...

ann arborfamilyrants Keith is filming a promotional piece for the Michigan Theater. It's a pretty involved shoot, with union crew, even. He's been planning all week, getting all those ducks in neat little rows and trying to minimize the unknowns so that the actual shooting can be done smoothly. The world has other ideas. 1. I prepared some digital images to be made into slides, they were to be complete Friday afternoon as we need them for Monday. Friday morning, the lab called to say their machine was broken and they could probably have the slides to us Monday afternoon. I scrambled and set up copy-stand shots on slide film of the prints we had, as they could process ...

artsweb, tech & gadgets I come and go on whether Amazon is evil or not, but they do offer a lot of free downloads. Here's a page of Philip Glass tracks (dozens and dozens) for your downloading enjoyment.

the ravines

ann arborrants In spite of the fact that there is already a development called The Ravines in Ann Arbor, there is a new set of townhomes calling themselves The Ravines going in on Huron near Seventh. (Does anyone but me question naming a housing development for anything close to falling off a cliff?) According to the sign, there will be 7 townhomes (on an awfully small lot) starting at, hold your breath now, $500K. Yes, starting at half a million. But they have garages! Are you not thrilled?! A quick run through the MLS shows that there are two active properties on Huron, both single family homes - one at under $200K and one at $425K. Over the ...

i’ll gladly pay you tuesday

ann arborrants There have got to be some decent and not outrageously priced options for Friday let's-go-out lunch in Ann Arbor. I just have no idea where they are. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Are there lunch buffets out there anywhere? I guess the criteria is decent food and lunch for two under $15 total. Under $13, even better. Places that currently mostly work for us: Senior Lopez Eastern Accents the Thai place at the Colonade - can never remember the name Afternoon Delight (hard to stay under $15, though) I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of. Or not.

They may be the alma mater, but oh man - what were they thinking spending $4 million dollars for this coach? so they could look like they sent the JV team out?
